How to Save Your iPhone Battery Life

Have you ever wondered how your iPhone can have a fully charged battery when you wake up, and the next time you look at it, you’ve got half that? You’ve barely used it, and you have a full day ahead of you, so what gives?
The culprit is most likely Apple’s feature called Background App Refresh. Introduced in the iOS 7 update of September 2013, this feature allows your apps to continually update when they aren’t being used. While this is pretty efficient by allowing your phone to multi-task even when you aren’t in a specific app, it is a huge drain on battery life. If longer lasting battery life is more important to you than refreshed apps, here are the simple steps to turn off Background App Refresh:
Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap General

Step 3: Under General, choose Background App Refresh.

Step 4: In Background App Refresh, you have two options. The first option is turn off Background App Refresh for all apps. Simply press the green oval beside Background App Refresh. You will be prompted to “Disable Background App Refresh”, so choose this option. Now, all apps will stop refreshing when you are not in them.

The second option is to pick and choose which apps you would like to have refresh in the background. To do this, just press the green ovals beside the apps that you wish to stop refreshing in the background. All other apps will continue to run in the background.

And, if in the future, you decide that you want to change which apps are on for Background Refresh, just tap the ovals again to turn them back on. It’s as easy as that!
