google chrome not working or responding windows 8

Google Chrome won’t open in Windows 8. It won’t give you any errors as to why it won’t open. Repairing and re-installing Google Chrome won’t fix the issue either.

Cause

Common cause is third party toolbars or search bars. In turn it may be worth removing add ons individually to isolate the cause. Its a real pain

Solution

  1. Hold Windows key and tap the X key.
  2. Select and open “Control Panel”
  3. Select “Programs and Features” and uninstall any toolbars or search bars in list.
  4. Reset Google Chrome.
  5. Test and try to open Google Chrome again.
To reset Google Chrome to defaults, follow these instructions:
  1. Make sure Google Chrome is closed.
  2. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the run dialog.
  3. Windows Vista, 7, 8 or newer:
Type in the following and press Enter: %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
    Windows XP:
Type in the following and press Enter: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
  4. Press Ctrl + A to select all the files in the folder.
  5. Hold down Ctrl + A and click once on the files “Bookmarks” and “Bookmarks.bak”. This will unselect them.
  6. With all the files selected (except for your Bookmarks), press the Delete key and click Yes to delete the files.
